On July 18, community members in the Whittier Heights neighborhood put together a work party and ice-cream social to fundraise for a new park to be built on Ninth Avenue Northwest and to give the local neighbors a chance to get involved with brainstorming ideas for the open space.

Last year, the city of Seattle purchased a 39,000-square-foot property at 7028 9th Ave. N.W. and dozens came out in support last week of what will become the neighborhood's newest park.

Industrial Park, Lauderdale County, Mississippi

Handy Hardware Breaks Ground

It has been nine years since Lauderdale acquired the land to build a new industrial park. The project had its first payoff Monday.

The I-20/59 Industrial Park has been empty for almost a decade. But economic development officials say they hope, with work beginning for the Handy Hardware Distribution Center, that it will be the start of something good.

A sign seen by motorists as they drive west on Interstate 20 welcomes the newest local industry. The center will mark the first business to locate in the city's new industrial park.
