Columbus Commons will be a pedestrian-friendly gathering space featuring trees, grass and walking paths on the 8.9-acre site of the former City Center mall in Downtown Columbus. Capitol South is leveling the entire mall in order to provide a ‘clean and green slate’ by 2010 that will serve as recreational space and eventually attract private development. Over time, Columbus Commons will transform into a full-fledged neighborhood consisting of multi-story buildings with residential units above street-level retail, office buildings and entertainment venues, as well as a return to a more pedestrian-friendly street grid. Capitol South worked with The Georgetown Company as its development manager and MSI Design as its land use planner in order to create this plan. As work progresses, we will also employ additional engineers, architects and demolition and construction teams.
